ICT solutions provider Internet Thailand Plc (INET) is launching what it said was Thailand’s first public cloud Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) offering, in partnership with cloud and virtualisation company Citrix.

Built on Citrix’s desktop virtualisation solution XenDesktop, INET’s DaaS offering enables companies to reduce their total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 40%, and decrease IT infrastructure initiation time from 45 days to just a single day, Citrix said in a statement.

Through this partnership, INET customers will be able to shift their Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) applications from physical to virtual desktops, and gain instant and secure access to the corporate resources they need to be productive, Citrix added.

“We foresee the country’s IT spending to grow next year, with significant amount expected to be spent on software, including cloud and virtualisation,” said INET deputy managing director Wanchai Vach-shewadumrong.

“As we continuously look to deliver the best IT infrastructure services to our customers, it is crucial that we help our customers drive business value with innovative IT solutions that meet their unique business needs,” he added.

INET’s portfolio ranges from Internet data centre services (which includes business continuity planning and disaster recovery), to network connectivity and cloud services such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS).

With Thailand’s cloud readiness moving up the global ranks from 13th last year to ninth in 2014 (according to Asia Cloud Computing), INET recognised the need to boost its cloud services offerings for enterprises.

This led the company to introduce the new DaaS solution built on Citrix technology, the latter said.

Citrix XenDesktop allows INET's customers to securely access business apps and data, including Windows apps, from INET's public cloud.

As a result, customers can simply log on from any mobile device, at any time, from any location. This supports customers across various use cases, including improving business continuity plans, enhancing PC replacement processes and supporting Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives.

The desktop virtualisation solution optimises user experience with high performance over any network, including 3D professional graphics apps and workstations, Citrix said.

The cost of app and desktop management is minimised as apps are delivered, managed and supported through the web-based, self-service provisioning feature.

“There is a compelling need to build a solid ICT infrastructure in order for businesses in Thailand to realise the potential of its increasingly mobile-savvy workforce,” said Mark Micallef (pic), Asean area vice president at Citrix.

“A solid ICT infrastructure, supported by DaaS, can help organisations transform their businesses and gain a competitive edge without increasing IT complexities as they steer towards mobile-first strategies,” he added.
