- Just install; it scans your Mac and alerts you to any infection, says Trend Micro
- Newly-discovered Morcut affecting Snow Leopard and Lion systems
TREND Micro Inc has launched its latest security software MacClean, a free clean-up solution designed for Apple fans following the recent discovery of a new piece of malware known as Crisis or Morcut.
MacClean is designed for Macintosh users worried about infections of this kind, the company said in a statement.
Once downloaded, the use tool scans your Mac and alerts you to any infections found. On discovery of an infection, MacClean prompts you to remove the malware and notifies you once the clean-up has been successful.
This particular type of malware affecting Snow Leopard and Lion systems typically installs secretly on Macs and stays on the machines until it’s removed. Once installed, it runs certain commands that it receives remotely from a malicious user. Doing this puts affected Macs and the information within at great risk, Trend Micro said.
