TM R&D and UMCH Technology to accelerate e-health research collaboration
- UMCH a spinoff company of UM’s Commercialisation and Innovation Centre
- To collaborate on TM R&D’s Informative Domain Application Service project

TM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D) said it has signed a collaboration agreement with UMCH Technology Sdn Bhd that would pave the way for more joint R&D collaborations between the two parties in the near future.
The agreement is aimed at R&D in the areas of e-health/ m-health, said TM R&D, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM).
UMCH is a spinoff company of Universiti Malaya’s Commercialisation and Innovation Centre.
“As the research arm of TM, TM R&D is committed to exploring ways in which new Internet of Things (IoT), ICT and digital services can transform business operations, including players in the services sector such as healthcare,” said TM R&D chief executive officer Dr Gopi Kurup.
“This collaboration with UMCH aims to set a new benchmark in e-health services, building on the strengths of both partners,” he added.
The agreement will see both parties collaborating on R&D activities for TM R&D’s Informative Domain Application Service (IDAS) project.
TM R&D will develop an IoT platform for e-health applications while UMCH will assist it with health data analytics, monitoring and fitness algorithms.
Two clinical pilot tests – Corporate Integrated Fitness and Remote Chronic Disease Monitoring for use among ambulatory care patients – will be carried out during the implementation of this project, TM R&D said in a statement.
“Through our joint R&D collaborative agreement with TM R&D, we aim to reduce the cost of healthcare and make our connected healthcare services available to the general public at minimal cost,” said UMCH chairman and Universiti Malaya Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Dr Awang Bulgiba Awang Mahmud.
