The summit will be launched by Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, the Minister of Human Resource.

The Smart Sourcing Summit 2012 will gather the industry’s ‘who’s who,’ serving as the perfect platform for all to explore a plethora of issues and challenges in the regional and global sourcing industry, Outsourcing Malaysia said in a statement.

The summit also provides an opportunity to discover and learn from industry stalwarts on how Malaysia is poised for a more significant role in enabling the regional and global marketplace. This year’s summit is expected to be a gathering of over 250 delegates of various sectors, Outsourcing Malaysia said.

This year’s theme is “Leapfrogging Competition: From Local to Global,” which will look at the industry as it takes the leap to go global, bringing with it many complexities that need to be addressed.

The theme emphasizes Malaysia’s effort to become a location that offers high-value information technology (IT) and IT-enabled services via its home-grown service providers, said David Wong (pic), chairman of Outsourcing Malaysia.

This year’s summit features renowned speakers such as S. Swaminathan, CEO and managing director of Infosys BPO; Jerry Durant, chairman emeritus and founder of The International Institute for Outsource Management; Michael Warren, vice president of global sourcing at the Multimedia Development Corporation or MDeC; and Bobby Varanasi, who is one of the top 25 acknowledged leaders in the global sourcing space.

The summit also features plenary panels and case studies that touch on various issues including, among others, the leading trends in global outsourcing and what is needed for success, the myths and realities of government outsourcing, and Malaysia’s readiness for globalization.

Key areas that will be covered include first-hand feedback from buyers on their expectations from service providers; the need for business-aligned solutions and market positioning; global sourcing trends; the future of the outsourcing industry; the northern Malaysian state of Penang as the location of choice for the SSO industry; creating value and leveraging intelligent date centers; and others.

Outsourcing Malaysia is also organizing the Excellence Award and Dinner at the end of the second day, to be launched by Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The OM Excellence Award is presented to companies in Malaysia for creating compelling value, thereby enhancing Malaysia's position in the global sourcing marketplace. The awards are organized with the partnership of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP), a global, standards-setting organization and advocate for the outsourcing profession.

The OM Excellence Awards has categories such as IT Outsourcing Engagement of The Year; BPO Engagement of The Year; Best Data Center Engagement of The Year; Best Shared Services Operations of The Year; and Outsourcing Service Provider of The Year.

Outsourcing Malaysia is an initiative of the Malaysian outsourcing industry and is a chapter of Pikom, the country's National ICT Association. Its primary objective is to promote and develop Malaysia’s outsourcing services industry as a global hub for high-value sourcing activities.
