Singapore ICT industry honours republic’s best

  • Top award goes to company for technology that turns 2D device into a glasses-free 3D viewing platform
  • SiTF Awards, now in 5th year, has grown from 70 nominations to more than 290 submissions today

THE Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) recognised more than 40 innovative solutions across 11 categories at the SiTF Awards Ceremony and ICT Industry Gala Dinner on Oct 10.
 
The awards categories included best startup, cloud solution, digital media, e-government, infocomm productivity, student innovations, and more, the SiTF said in a statement.
 
The SiTF Awards, now in its fifth year, is a platform that gives companies an opportunity to showcase their solutions and receive professional feedback. It has grown from 70 nominations to more than 290 submissions today.
 
“We have mobilised more than 70 senior executives and veterans from the Information, Communications and Media (ICM) industry [as judges] … to select the top innovative submissions,” said Shirley Wong, SiTF chairman and organising chairman of the SiTF Awards 2013.
 
Singapore ICT industry honours republic’s bestNanoveu Pte Ltd garnered the evening’s top honour, the Judges’ Choice award, as well as the top spots in the Emerging Technology and Startup categories.
 
Nanoveu makes EyeFly3D, a thin flexible screen protector which, when affixed to a high resolution mobile display, turns a 2D device into a glasses-free 3D viewing platform.
 
“Eyefly3D demonstrates how we can turn innovative research into products that benefit consumers,” said Nanoveu chief executive officer and founder Alfred Chong.
 
“The win is also a testament to the ingenuity and creativity of a commercial entity working with A*STAR’s Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) scientists in turning lab research into a viable consumer product,” he added.
 
There was a new category for Most Popular Mobile Apps in this year’s awards, to help raise awareness for the 20 locally developed mobile apps that were up for public SMS voting, SiTF said.
 
This contest received more than 47,000 votes, in which the MyTransport.SG app from the Land Transport Authority proved most popular.
 
The app offers a wide range of information for all modes of land transport, empowering commuters, motorists and cyclists in Singapore to make informed decisions and better plan their journey.
 
“Increasingly, people turn to mobile apps to manage various aspects of their lives, and we feel honoured to be recognised as the most popular mobile app in Singapore,” said Chew Hock Yong, chief executive of the Land Transport Authority.

Meanwhile, the SiTF also launched The Portal, an online platform targeted at providing informative content and toolkits to aid companies in improving productivity.
