Showcase of greentech opportunities, innovations and trends

THE 2013 Asia Green Conference will address concerns of sustainable businesses and showcase sought-after opportunities, profound innovations and trends affecting the ‘green economy.’

With factors such as climate change, pollution and the need for sustainable usage of resources creating challenges for businesses and the wider community, it is pertinent for businesses to seek ways to develop a sustainable future for the new green economy, said main organiser Tan Chong Education Services, a subsidiary of local giant Tan Chong Group.

A sustainable business is any organisation that participates in environmentally friendly or green activities to ensure that all processes, products, and manufacturing activities adequately address current environmental concerns while maintaining a profit.

In other words, it is a business that “meets the needs of the present world without compromising the ability of the future generations to meet their own needs,” Tan Chong Education Services said in a statement.

With the theme Developing a Green Sustainable Future, the 2013 Asia Green Conference expects to attract over 400 industry professionals,  decision-makers, training experts, business consultants, NGO (non-governmental organisations), trade associations and government agencies from around the region.

The conference also aims to:

  • Highlight government green initiatives, new trends and critical knowledge;
  • Bring forth potential winning partnerships to organisations where profits, people and the environment are truly interconnected;
  • Ensure delegates have access to vital information regards availability of financial resources  e.g. grants, subsidies, tax incentives and loans in implementing green initiatives and staff training; and
  • Provide an opportunity for delegates to learn key success factors and issues faced from existing green business models and implementers.

Keynote speakers include Emeritus Professor Dr Muhamad Bin Awang, Vice Chancellor of SEGi University; Ahmad Hadri Haris, CEO of Malaysian Green Technology Corporation; Dr Wan Abdul Rahaman, advisor for Biotechnology Initiatives Manufacturing at the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority; M. Madani Sahari, CEO of the Malaysian Automotive Institute, as well as Craig Hurley, manager for the National Centre of Sustainability of the University of Ballarat.

The conference will also feature breakout sessions across a myriad of topics ranging from sustainable energy management system and solar energy, to the 360-degree aspect of going green and development of a green and sustainable office environment.

The conference is supported by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and will be opened by its minister Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

The conference, to be held from Dec 3-4 at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Selangor, is co-organised by the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI) and endorsed by the Malaysia Productivity Corporation.
