\Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) and Kintone Southeast Asia Sdn Bhd (Kintone) have joined forces to drive Sarawak’s digital future. The two companies previously exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding to advance Sarawak’s digital economy by leveraging cutting-edge technologies. This collaboration aligns with Sarawak’s vision for a sustainable, circular economy built on technological innovation and responsible growth.

To support Sarawak’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation journey, SDEC and Kintone successfully co-hosted the inaugural SME Digital Transformation Seminar in Kuching, Sarawak, on 18 February. The seminar marked a significant step towards equipping Sarawak’s SMEs with the tools, resources, and expert support needed to grow their businesses and remain competitive in an increasingly digital landscape.

Sarawak has drawn growing attention for its digitalisation efforts, with the state government actively investing in digital infrastructure. The collaboration between SDEC and Kintone responds to the increasing demand for accessible, adaptable solutions for local businesses and supports the vision outlined in the Sarawak Digital Economy Blueprint 2030.

SMEs account for approximately 97% of all businesses in Malaysia, making them the backbone of the nation’s economy. "Kintone’s no-code platform simplifies complex workflow processes, enabling SMEs across industries—including tourism, construction, and retail—to build user-friendly custom applications tailored to their needs at a fraction of the cost. This eliminates the burden of expensive IT expenditures that many businesses struggle to sustain,” said Tsubasa Nakazawa, managing director of Kintone Southeast Asia.

“Our ultimate goal is to help businesses of all sizes integrate this solution, transforming their operations and supporting scalable growth. Kintone currently serves over 37,000 customers globally, empowering businesses, government agencies, and communities to enhance productivity, collaboration, and efficiency. This initiative reflects our broader commitment to supporting SMEs across Sarawak, Borneo, and Malaysia as a whole," he added.

The SDEC x Kintone seminar brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, and business owners, offering enterprises of all sizes an opportunity to learn how digital tools can streamline operations and drive cost-efficient improvements—without requiring IT expertise. Attendees gained hands-on insights into how Kintone’s intuitive platform helps organisations manage workflows and enhance collaboration at a manageable pace. The event also facilitated networking opportunities for participants to exchange insights and connect.

As digital transformation continues to shape Sarawak’s economy, this seminar reinforced the shared belief that technology should be an enabler. Through practical demonstrations and expert-led discussions, participants witnessed firsthand how Kintone’s flexible platform can streamline workflows, reduce operational bottlenecks, and empower businesses to adapt to a rapidly digitising world.
