Petronas wraps up digital acceleration programme for 2024 with inaugural cohort in Penang

- 12-day programme strengthens students’ digital literacy, enhance job prospects
- More editions to come via collaboration with higher learning institutions, industry
PETRONAS announced the conclusion of its BeDigital Bootcamp series for the year with the 10th cohort, which also marked the programme’s entry into the Northern Region of Peninsula Malaysia.
With the completion of 10 cohorts supported by a total of 27 local universities and over 90 hiring partners, the bootcamp has digitally empowered 860 students with 276 successful job matches since it was first introduced in 2022.
Held at Universiti Teknologi MARA’s (UiTM) branch at Permatang Pauh, Penang, the cohort saw the participation of 98 final-year students from five universities namely UiTM Penang, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Universiti Teknologi Petronas. This is BeDigital’s fifth destination for 2024, following its bootcamps in the East Coast, the Southern Region as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
The closing ceremony was graced by Penang Governor, Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, along with Petronas Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management, Ir. Bacho Pilong.
Conducted primarily by Petronas talents in collaboration with tech partners, the 12-day programme aims to strengthen students’ digital literacy, enhance job prospects, improve marketability, and explore digital entrepreneurship in support of the nation’s digital aspirations.
The modules are regularly updated in accordance with market needs and include in- demand digital skills such as artificial intelligence and cyber security, as well as effective presentation skills experienced through a "shark tank pitch".
Petronas Vice President of Group Project Delivery, Project Delivery and Technology, Ir. Shah Rizal Dahlan said, “It is an immense honour to bring the BeDigital Bootcamp to the Northern Region for the first time. This milestone underscores our dedication to expanding opportunities for growth and learning for communities across the nation.”
He said Petronas looked forward to more editions through continued collaboration with higher learning institutions, industry players and hiring partners who share its vision for the nation’s digital future.
Petronas BeDigital Bootcamp was first introduced in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in March and August 2022, with 18 and 50 students respectively.
