Nutanix brings hyper-converged infrastructure to cloud ecosystem

NUTANIX, is an US-based cloud computing software company that offers enterprise cloud single software OS platform with what it calls hyper-converged infrastructure (HCI) and software defined storage.

HCI integrates compute, storage, virtualisation, and networking in a full-stack solution that runs nearly any application. It also combines the agility and simplicity of the public cloud, with the security and control needed in a private cloud and minimises the number of servers in a stack.

Nutanix Indonesia country manager Andreas Ananto Kagawa says, “When we first launched in 2009, we wanted to introduce and educate the ecosystem on cloud, and now in this digitalisation era, companies are looking for the best cloud applications.

“We aimed to disrupt the market by introducing hyper-converged infrastructure to our clients in 2011 and it went big in 2016.”

He sees that the businesses now need the best mix of cloud technology and to have that, it requires a large investment.

“So, we focus on delivering a combination of public, private, and distributed cloud (to interconnect data and applications served from multiple geographic locations), by enabling scale-out model where we also perform for clients who only use cloud on a small scale.”

The HCI also allows clients to choose a preferred hardware platform, virtualisation, and cloud vendor.

Nutanix offers three main products, namely Software as a Service (SaaS), Product as a Service (PaaS), and infrastructure services named Nutanix Beam, Era, and Flow.

Nutanix Beam helps to optimise cost and compliance, Nutanix Era automates database operations such as provisioning and life cycle management, and Nutanix Flow enables micro-segmentation, which leverages on an application-centric policy model that is backed by the granular control offered by a distributed stateful virtual machine level firewall.

Andreas adds that HCI technology is able to cut the five-year total of ownership cost by up to 65%.

“If a company has fewer stacks of servers implemented in different areas, it will be manageable from the central office.”

Nutanix has over than 8,000 clients in 140 countries with more than 3,200 employees globally.

The company expanded its business to Indonesia in 2015, with clients mostly from the government and public sector. Now, it serves clients from financial services, education, healthcare, life sciences, retails, manufacturing, and transportation.

In Indonesia, it also sees 136% customer growth yearly and local team growth of 40% which consists of sales, technical, channel, and marketing.

Andreas says that the key driver of this growth is having a specialised team of sales and technicians for each industry so it is more localised.
