Astro’s hitz.fm gets honouree title at Webbys

ASTRO Radio’s hitz.fm has been awarded an Official Honouree title in the 17th Annual Webby Awards in the Radio & Podcasts category, the first Malaysian radio station to win such recognition.
The award recognised hitz.fm’s content, design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience in web design, Astro said in a statement.
Last December, hitz.fm re-engineered its website to offer a friendlier and more engaging online user experience. Its mission was to make the brand new website entertaining and fun.
“This award is a testament of the unwavering commitment of Astro Radio’s Digital team,” said T.H. Chong, Astro Radio’s chief commercial officer.
“This year, the Webby Awards received nearly 11,000 entries from all over the world and we are humbled by this recognition. This is a great achievement and we hope to secure many more awards in the digital space for our properties.
“We will continue to endeavour to raise the standards of broadcast and content creation, aggregation and delivery,” added Chong.
The Webby Awards, established in 1996, is the leading international award honouring excellence on the Internet.
It is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences with a 1,000+ member judging body including such people as musician David Bowie; Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf; Arianna Huffington, president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group; Twitter co-founder Biz Stone; Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom; Mozilla CEO and chair Mitchell Baker; Tumblr founder David Karp; and Roy L. Furman Professor of Law and Leadership at Harvard Law School, Lawrence Lessig.
Last year, Astro Radio received a total of eight awards at the Kancil Awards in Creative & Copywriting Awards, while its MY FM won the Bronze Award in the Media and Entertainment category at the Putra Brand Award.
Astro Radio Sdn Bhd (formerly known as Airtime Management & Programming Sdn Bhd) claims to 12.34 million listeners, reaching out to 92% of Malaysia’s radio audience, via its various radio stations, including ERA fm, hitz.fm, MIX fm, LiteFM, SINAR fm, THR (Raaga and Gegar) & MELODY FM.
