YTL Communications Sdn Bhd has signed two significant memorandums of understanding with Equinix Inc., the world’s digital infrastructure company, and Transcelestial, a pioneer in laser communications technology. In a statement, the company said these strategic collaborations aim to bring cutting-edge technology solutions to businesses in Malaysia by enhancing connectivity and AI capabilities in a more sustainable manner.

The MOUs were signed by Wing K. Lee, CEO of YTL Communications, Bruce Owen, president of Equinix EMEA, and Dinesh Kumaran, head of sales at Transcelestial, witnessed by deputy communications minister Teo Nie Ching and Dr Chee Hong Leong, commission member of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, at the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Spain.

Wing K. Lee stated, “As a pioneer in 5G and AI, we constantly push the bar on technological advancements in Malaysia. These collaborations will accelerate the country’s AI adoption and digital transformation by equipping businesses with world-class connectivity and sustainable infrastructure.”

YTL Communications will enable international customers to access YTL AI Cloud through Equinix, supporting the growing demand for accelerated computing in the region. Through Equinix’s global interconnection services, businesses can securely access YTL AI Cloud for GPU-as-a-service, allowing on-demand access to the latest generation GPUs for AI workloads. Supported by 100% renewable energy at YTL’s 500MW Green Data Centre Park, this collaboration enables businesses to embrace AI with no impact on climate sustainability, aligning with global trends towards responsible AI development.

“By combining cutting-edge AI technology with sustainability, we empower businesses to innovate using AI while promoting environmental responsibility. And with the global reach powered by Equinix Fabric, this twin benefit can be extended to more businesses,” Lee added.

David Bate, senior vice president of sales, Asia-Pacific at Equinix, commented, “Enabled by modern, sustainable data centres, AI is fuelling the modern economy and transforming our lives. We are excited about our collaboration with YTL Communications, which will bring businesses in Malaysia access to our extensive cloud, network, and global AI ecosystems.”

YTL Communications claims to be the first telco in Malaysia to harness Transcelestial’s wireless laser communications technology, delivering fibre-class connectivity with enhanced flexibility. This innovative solution eliminates the need for physical cables, enabling ultra-low latency and high-capacity connections, even in traditionally hard-to-reach locations.

Transcelestial’s shoebox-sized Centauri devices offer unparalleled deployment flexibility, providing high-capacity, spectrum-free connectivity via lasers, without the need for physical fibre cables.

“Transcelestial’s innovative technology has the potential to provide fibre-level connectivity over terrains and environments that would normally pose challenges to conventional fibre optic cables. This partnership will help us better serve our customers as data consumption continues to grow – in line with Malaysia’s drive towards a digital nation. We look forward to improving the performance and resilience of our network while enabling enterprise customers through this collaboration,” Lee said.

Rohit Jha, CEO and co-founder of Transcelestial, added, “Transcelestial is driven by a vision of limitless connectivity—one where physical barriers no longer constrain high-speed internet access. By partnering with YTL Communications as the first telco in Malaysia to adopt our laser technology, we’re enabling fibre-like speeds while unlocking new levels of resilience and flexibility for network infrastructure.”

“This collaboration not only accelerates the nation’s digital and AI ambitions but also empowers businesses and communities to innovate, compete, and thrive in the global digital economy,” he added.

These collaborations align with YTL Group’s 70-year nation-building mission across physical and digital infrastructure, spanning diverse industries and regions.

“Combined with our group’s strategic investments in the 500MW YTL Green Data Centre Park, our partnership with NVIDIA on the nation’s first sovereign AI cloud, and Malaysia’s first AI-driven digital bank, we have the requisite digital infrastructure to be a key enabler for digital transformation across the country,” Lee added.
