VIU, a pan-regional OTT video service by PCCW Media, debuts the airing of Viu Original content that showcases Chinese content from drama series, reality travelogues, culinary shows to infotainment talk shows by ViuTV, a domestic free TV service provider in Hong Kong.
The programmes are available in Singapore and the Philippines immediately and will be progressively rolled out to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Viu Original will boost Viu’s line-up of Asian content by introducing the ViuTV productions which are engaging to viewers in Southeast Asia.
PCCW Media Group managing director Janice Lee said, “Today’s viewers are changing the landscape of the content industry not only with their online multi-screen viewing, but also in terms of the choice of content they are consuming.
“They are keen to expand the horizon of content they watch and to discover refreshing content that is not widely available. Viu Original will satisfy their appetites for ‘real and relatable characters’ and we expect that the shows will create a buzz among viewers.”
Viu Original Chinese content will include contemporary drama series such as “Margaret & David: Green Bean” from ViuTV starring Hong Kong artiste Bowie Lam.
Viu Original reality programmes include “404 Countries Not Found”, one of the top five programmes in the “2016 TV Programme Appreciation Index Survey (3rd stage)” in Hong Kong.
In response to millennials’ preference for exotic cuisine, Viu Original includes ViuTV’s culinary shows that reflect their love of the exotic. “Colin’s Exotic Recipes” involves trying out different dishes based on the recommendations of nationals from exotic countries who reside in Hong Kong. “Go Green USA” caters to vegans and the show features journeys around various cities in the United States in pursuit of a green lifestyle.
Lee adds, “Viu expands the Viu Original catalogue with creativity by introducing unique content that we believe will drive high engagement and involvement with our viewers and deliver target audience for both our advertisers and telco partners in the respective markets.”
After its recent launch in Thailand, Viu OTT video service is now available in 15 markets across the region, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, the Philippines and the Middle East countries of Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
The service can be accessed via Viu mobile app (downloadable for free on App Store and Google Play) on connected devices such as smartphones and tablets as well as on computers by logging onto www.viu.com website.
