Malaysia Internet Exchange (MyIX) recently concluded the latest intake of its Talent Development Programme, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing Malaysia’s digital talent and strengthening the nation’s position as a leading tech hub within Southeast Asia.

In a statement, the exchange said this Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, conducted in collaboration with Forward College and provided at no cost to participants, was designed to equip fresh graduates and early-career professionals with essential industry skills in telecommunications and internet infrastructure.

MyIX chairman, Chiew Kok Hin, stated that the programme offered a comprehensive seven-day training course focusing on critical areas such as IP networks, system operations management, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence in traffic analysis and Distributed Denial of Service mitigation.

He added that, given the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the telco and data industries amidst Malaysia’s fast-growing digital economy, the MyIX committee is committed to giving back to the community by building a sustainable talent pipeline.

“This initiative forms part of MyIX’s contribution towards preparing Malaysians for the digital future, ensuring they have the knowledge and skills required to excel within our country’s fast-growing and evolving digital landscape,” Chiew said.

He further noted, “With the digital economy strengthening year after year, the demand for skilled professionals in the telco and internet sectors will only continue to grow. Through this programme, we aim to empower participants, equipping them with the tools they need to succeed.”

The 35 participants explored the intricacies of modern telecommunications and internet infrastructure, including core components such as IP networks, the backbone of data transmission and communication, and system operations management, ensuring the efficient functioning of these networks.

The inclusion of AI training additionally provided participants with cutting-edge insights into the role of AI in telecommunications, particularly in traffic analysis and cybersecurity.

Meanwhile, Forward College CEO, Howie Chang, expressed that witnessing the significant growth and skill development in these young professionals has been immensely rewarding.

“This intake also benefited tremendously from the AI module, providing participants with advanced insights into the role of AI in telecommunications, particularly in traffic analysis and cybersecurity,” he added.

“By bridging the gap between education and industry, we are helping to build the foundation for Malaysia’s future digital leaders. We look forward to continuing this collaboration,” Chang said.

MyIX today plays a crucial role in enhancing Malaysia’s internet infrastructure by promoting efficient traffic routing among local internet service providers and content providers. By continually engaging in initiatives like the Talent Development Programme, MyIX is actively contributing to the development of a skilled workforce, essential for the nation’s digital advancement.

Through its commitment to talent development and embracing emerging technologies, MyIX emphasised that it is playing its part in making Malaysia a leading tech hub within Southeast Asia. The organisation’s efforts aim to foster a culture of innovation among Malaysians and ensure the country remains at the forefront of technological progress in the region.
