LexisNexis® Legal & Professional, a leading global provider of information and analytics, has released its Generative AI and the Legal Profession 2025 Survey Report for Malaysia and Singapore. Based on a survey of over 400 lawyers and legal professionals across both countries, the report explores how the legal sector is adopting generative AI tools in daily practice. It reveals key insights into awareness, usage trends, and a future where these tools become integral to legal research and practice.

“Generative AI is breaking new ground across industries, and its impact on the legal sector in Malaysia and Singapore is significant,” said Gaythri Raman, managing director of LexisNexis Southeast Asia. “These regions are uniquely positioned to lead the adoption of AI technologies. In the legal profession, generative AI isn’t just about efficiency—it’s transforming how legal services are delivered.”

Findings from the report include:

  • 70% of respondents believe they will fall behind if they do not start using generative AI tools. Beyond personal motivation, pressure and expectations also come from the companies they serve (36%), peers (30%), and clients (16%).
  • 48% of legal professionals in Malaysia and Singapore expressed confidence in their understanding of generative AI tools and how to leverage them.
  • 66% of respondents shared that they are using generative AI tools in their work, with those in law firms showing higher adoption than those working in-house.
  • 56% of respondents consider the impact of introducing generative AI tools in their firms or organisations to be transformative or significant.
