GREEN Packet Bhd (Green Packet), a recognised telecommunications, media and technology company announced a reshuffle of its management team with the return, after a five-year hiatus of founder Puan Chan Cheong (better known as CC Puan) as group managing director and chief executive officer.
CC Puan will focus on mentoring and growing the key management of Green Packet to propel digital startups, fuelling the technology ecosystem in the region. Tan Kay Yen on the other hand will remain as the executive director of Green Packet and CEO of kiplePay Sdn Bhd.
With the rising trend of e-payments in Malaysia and multiple initiatives of Green Packet in this fast-evolving space, Tan will fully focus and drive the fintech business that focuses on e-wallet and payment gateway solutions, realising the Group’s fintech aspiration to empower cashless communities and the fintech ecosystem in Malaysia.
Excited to embark on this new journey, CC Puan highlights that the main ingredient to be a successful company is to have a dedicated and passionate team which shares the same values with the organisation. “Tan and the team did a great job to prepare Green Packet for the future. I look forward to rally the team onward and forward by growing and empowering the team through several people-focused initiatives and drive a Deliberately Growth Culture Company (DGCC) besides propelling growth and development.”
Since acquiring 80% stake in e-payment issuer, kiplePay Sdn Bhd (formerly known as WebOnline Dot Com Sdn Bhd) in 2017, Green Packet has leveraged its broad technology competency to develop a multitude of fintech solutions to serve identified market gaps and pain points, addressing different B2B and B2B2C needs which require the need for payment transactions. Having tested many different iterations and zooming in on what’s needed in the market, Green Packet has branched out to concentrate on specific verticals which includes enabling cashless campuses and empowering e-commerce via kiplePay, smart parking 4.0 via kiplePark and property management 4.0 via kipleHome.
“We see a need to make some fit-for-purpose changes to strongly focus on our business core competencies and scale a fast-growth digital services business. Hence, it is timely that we put the best leadership focus to scale up and provide strong momentum in catering for the digital needs of people today,” said Omar Abdul Rahman, chairman of Green Packet.
“CC Puan is definitely the perfect fit to spearhead Green Packet’s business development and lead a dedicated, focused team,” adds Omar. “With his strong local and international network, business acumen, organisational scaling capabilities and his undying passion in pursuing life improvement with digital innovations, I believe CC Puan will drive the Green Packet Group to greater heights.”
Omar expects that, along with Tan’s strengths in providing a laser sharp focus in the fintech business, Green Packet will see a stronger and more experienced management team which will translate into stronger business results for Green Packet.
CC Puan founded Green Packet in the year 2000 and led the company to become an international player in the provision of connectivity devices and solutions to telecommunications companies globally serving more than 100 clients in over 70 countries. He subsequently led the company to its Main Market listing in 2005. Green Packet’s biggest endeavour was to raise substantial capital to launch and operate Malaysia’s challenger telecommunications company, Packet One, before it was acquired by TM Bhd. Thereafter, CC Puan relinquished his role as Group CEO to Tan in 2014 when he assumed the role of P1 CEO post the TM acquisition for a period of two years.
Today, the Green Packet group operates in three key segments which are solutions (devices), communications (voice minutes and data) and digital services (comprising Financial Technology, Property Technology, Internet-of-Things and Artificial Intelligence) which designs and produces wireless broadband devices, user-centred products, applications and services that enable the delivery of valuable digital experiences.
