EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, part of EdgePoint Infrastructure, an Asean-based independent telecommunications infrastructure company, has partnered with Malaysia’s leading mobile network operator (MNO), CelcomDigi Bhd. The partnership was formalised at the TowerXchange Meet Up Asia 2024, a premier event for Asia-Pacific tower industry players.

EdgePoint Towers and CelcomDigi signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to collaborate on expanding CelcomDigi’s connectivity reach, achieving network synergies, and optimising costs to deliver seamless connectivity for customers. The agreement also sets the stage for advanced connectivity solutions, including in-building systems and small cells, to enhance indoor coverage and prepare for increased data demand.

Muniff Kamaruddin, CEO of EdgePoint Towers, said: “This partnership extends the successful relationship between EdgePoint and CelcomDigi. We are excited to support CelcomDigi in realising the benefits of the merger and preparing for future growth.”

He added: “As Malaysia advances its connectivity goals, we are committed to rapidly developing and deploying future-ready infrastructure and innovative technologies to enhance digital experiences for consumers and enterprises nationwide.”

Idham Nawawi, CEO of CelcomDigi, commented: “Malaysia is poised to lead the region in 5G and AI development. Our commitment is to build a state-of-the-art network that advances the nation into a 5G and AI-powered digital society. Partnerships like this enable us to optimise our newly modernised network, expand coverage, and accelerate Malaysia’s digital transformation.”

At the same event, Persatuan Penyedia Infrastruktur Telekomunikasi Malaysia (PPIT) and the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB) signed an agreement to ensure the deployment of quality infrastructure in Malaysia. The agreement underscores commitments to network interoperability, safety, and adherence to technical standards for network services and facilities.

PPIT’s president, Muniff Kamaruddin, signed the agreement alongside MTSFB CEO Normarinee Mohd Nor. Speaking at the event, Normarinee said: “As the telecommunications industry evolves rapidly, it’s vital to establish forward-thinking, relevant standards that drive innovation while ensuring reliability, security, sustainability, and interoperability. Our aim is to foster collaboration among industry leaders, regulators, and technology providers to build a more connected and sustainable future.”

EdgePoint currently owns more than 15,000 towers across Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
