- Proximity marketing, indoor mapping, and interactive shopping available at mall
- Services built on top of 1337 Tech’s Baucar app and platform
LOCAL startup 1337 Tech Sdn Bhd said it has deployed Malaysia’s first iBeacon-enabled mall experience at Shaftsbury Square, Cyberjaya.
iBeacon, a device powered by Bluetooth low energy, was developed by US consumer technology giant Apple Inc to provide contextual information, or to allow relevant and customised content to be broadcast to nearby users.
The iBeacon deployment at Shaftsbury Square will enhance the shopping experience for consumers with built-in services such as proximity marketing, indoor mapping, and interactive shopping, via 1337 Tech’s ‘Baucar’ app, the startup said in a statement.
Baucar was recently awarded an RM500,000 (US$154,000) grant under the Teraju Superb programme, according to 1337 Tech.
Shaftsbury Square currently has 85 beacons strategically placed in locations throughout the mall and has started broadcasting contextual content to its visitors.
This has enabled mall tenants to attract customers by sending their latest promotional notifications to users’ smartphones while they are within the vicinity of the store, 1337 Tech said.
The deployment aims to replace the cost of conventional marketing via promoters, fliers, and expensive billboards, it added.
The iBeacon implementation by 1337 Tech and the iKhasas Group will also be extended to selected iKhasas mall and hotel properties.
1337 Tech was established in 2012 and has developed and engineered the following products, amongst others:
- Ked.ai: A local e-commerce ‘snap and sell’ marketplace;
- Baucar: A hyperlocal advertising platform based on iBeacon; and
- Bitcoin Exchange Malaysia: Which claims to be the first Bitcoin exchange in Malaysia.
