Developers, get on the 1337 Bus

  • Teams have to build apps based on words
  • In line with aims to set up incubation center for mobile apps

TECHNOLOGY training specialist iTrain Sdn Bhd and Cyberview Sdn Bhd are organizing a “hackathon” tomorrow, May 19, with a unique twist: It’s not just about building an app, but about the journey too.

The inaugural event of the “1337” (Leet or Elite in Internet-speak) Bus Series is Destination: Hack, where mobile developers are invited to form teams and build apps around words.

Participants will meet at Taman Jaya LRT station, Petaling Jaya, at 9am. Each participant will be given a random word on what they need to build. They can find more members and more words and put together a new meaning for an app.

Each team can only have a max of five people. Process and ideation will be done on the bus ride (yeah, the Leet Bus) to iTrain’s office in Kuala Lumpur.

Developers, get on the 1337 Bus“The whole event is in line with the Accelerator or incubator we’re launching in Cyberjaya at the end of this year,” says Bikesh L (pic), iTrain chief executive officer.

The Accelerator will seed startups with mobile app ideas, primarily games, in the first round. Cyberview is encouraging it as part of its mission to develop Cyberjaya into a global MSC Malaysia Cybercity hub and the preferred location for technology companies.

“We’re looking at having activities such as the 1337 Bus Series on a quarterly basis to spur mobile developers to collaborate amongst each other; to have various platform developers and designers network with each other to foster the learning and development of ideas,” says Bikesh.

For tomorrow’s hackathon, Cyberview and iTrain are targeting not just developers but also designers and project and business development managers, to see how each one can contribute towards building an innovative idea, he adds.
