Acer unveils new trio of laptops

ACER showcased a trio of new laptops during its recent Acer Day roadshow in Kuala Lumpur. The three are the Acer Swift 7, Switch 7 Black Edition and Predator Helios 300.

Said to be Acer’s thinnest 4G LTE connected laptop, the Swift 7 is designed for those who demand mobility and power. It has a ridiculously slim 8.98mm profile that makes it ideal for busy mobile workers.

The built-in 4G LTE connectivity keeps the Acer Swift 7 always connected, so professionals need not worry about being disconnected from local WiFi and can focus on their work. Users also enjoy easy password-less unlocking with the built-in fingerprint reader.

With the Swift 7, you get a 14-inch Full HD IPS display with narrow bezels, fronted by protective Gorilla Glass.

The laptop comes powered by a 7th Generation Intel Core processor with 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, for smooth multitasking, together with a 256GB Solid State Drive (SSD).

Acer says the Swift 7’s built-in battery offers up to 10 hours of usage.

The Swift 7 retails for US$1,567 (RM6,399).

Don’t let its looks fool you. The Acer Switch 7 Black Edition packs more power than it lets on. Acer touts it as the world’s first fan-less 2-in-1 laptop that comes with discrete graphics.

Weighing at just 1.15kg, it is a versatile device that works both as a Windows 10 laptop and a tablet with full PC functionality. Similar to the Microsoft Surface device, this convertible has a detachable keyboard and flip-out kickstand for easy viewing of its large 13.5-inch QHD IPs display.

Internally, the Switch 7 packs a powerful 8th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM and a 512GB SSD. Adding to that it has Nvidia GeForce M150 graphics that allows it to perform multimedia heavy tasks like edit videos on Adobe Premiere Pro.

To keep it cool, the Switch 7 utilises a dual Liquid Loop cooling system that uses a series of pipes to distribute the heat. As it is fanless, it runs silently and runs no risk of dust entering.

Acer claims the Switch 7’s battery gives it eight hours of operation.

The Switch 7 Black Edition retails for US$1,714 (RM6,999).

Finally, Acer revealed a special edition of its Predator gaming laptop, the Helios 300. Decked in an all-white aluminium chassis with a gold trim, Acer said there are only 50 units of these laptops in Malaysia.

Engineered for performance the Helios 300 comes equipped with up to 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR4 RAM (upgradable to 32GB) plus a 256GB SSD combined with a 1TB hard disk drive. To power its gaming muscles it is paired with an overclockable Nvidia GeForce GTX1060 graphics.

According to Acer, the Helios 300 is even VR ready and has an upgraded 15.6-inch FullHD IPS display that has a 144hz refresh rate, allowing for smooth gameplay.

Gamers who need fast wired connections for competitive games will stay on top of their game thanks to Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit WiFi.

Also to keep the laptop cool while gaming, it has a dual-fan system using Acer’s AeroBlade 3D metal fans to boot its thermal cooling and keep the laptop running on long gaming sessions.

The Predator Helios 300 Special Edition comes complete with a Predator gaming backpack, earphone, gaming mouse, mousepad. All the accessories come in matching white to pair with the laptop better. It will be available for purchase by mid-August at US$1519 (RM6,199).
