Maxis TV launched for mobile subscribers in another step to converged connectivity

In an era of high speed Internet and smartphones, and with video on-demand (VOD) consumption gaining popularity in Malaysia, with the market estimated at US$81 million (RM335 million) for 2019, Maxis has launched Maxis TV (formerly TVNow), a video entertainment service that offers premium video content from movies to TV shows that is affordable and flexible for everyone. The all-in-one platform is easily accessible through the MyMaxis, Hotlink RED and Flex apps, enabling customers to choose to watch whatever, however and whenever they want.

It is not however available for Maxis fibre customers. Typically content is licensed by platform. Maxis is focusing here on its mobile base of customers, not its fixed fibre customers.

Three VOD passes are offered, with the daily rate at RM3, weekly at RM7 and monthly at RM15 and bundled with data at 3GB, 5GB and 10GB for the monthly pass. Content choices cover favourites such as – Hollywood, Korean, Indian, Chinese, Indonesian and popular local Malay content.  Maxis is partnering top tier VOD providers, such as iflix, Viu, Mubi, YuppTV, and many more to come, to offer this service. While netflix is not part of MaxisTV, subscribers can take it up separately.

As a one-stop discovery platform, customers can browse their options easily through their mobile apps with VOD pass purchases made easy – charged to their Maxis bill or Hotlink credit.

“Malaysians are truly digital natives – they love watching videos and they love having more choices and flexibility in consuming content. The future is about converged connectivity, and this is where consumers can go to for all their connectivity, content and service needs. As digital lifestyles continue to evolve, we are bringing consumers value-added, unmatched personalised experiences,” said Navin Manian, Maxis’ Head of Customer Base Management.
