TM to provide bandwidth to Altel’s Net2One

TELEKOM Malaysia Bhd (TM) has inked a wholesale services partnership with telco newcomer Net2One Sdn Bhd, under which TM will provide Net2One with high-capacity bandwidth services.

This would enable Net2One to extend its network reach, shorten its time-to-market and strengthen its offerings, namely managed Ethernet, dedicated Internet access and private leased circuit services, TM said in a statement.

Net2One, a member of Altel Holdings, aims to provide enterprise customers with seamless network connectivity, high value managed solutions, pro-active performance management, and guaranteed service assurance.

“… working with Net2One will ensure bandwidth is readily accessible for Net2One customers via our network,” said TM executive director and group chief financial officer Bazlan Osman.

“With this collaboration, both TM and Net2One will be able to leverage on each other’s core expertise, resulting in better services and connectivity for end-customers,” he said, adding that this partnership also supported the Malaysian Government’s call for network infrastructure sharing.

Altel Holdings is owned by politically-connected tycoon Syed Mokhtar al-Bukhary, and has three subsidiaries – Net2One, Altel Communications Sdn Bhd and MyTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd. Net2One provides managed connectivity solutions; Altel Communications operates a 4G/LTE (Fourth Generation/ Long-Term Evolution) network; while MyTV has the licence to operate a digital terrestrial television platform.

With this partnership, “Net2One will be able to bring value to the Altel Group of companies, namely Altel Communications and MyTV Broadcasting, in expediting their rollout,” said Altel Holdings group chief executive officer Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Yaacob.

“Being a new player, we believe strategic collaboration in the area of network infrastructure and wholesale services will be an effective go-to-market approach to optimise our business operations,” he added.

As the one-stop centre consolidating all network connectivity requirements of the Altel Group, Net2One will be able to tap on TM’s nationwide fibre coverage and network platform to primarily serve the group, TM said.

In the medium term, Net2One hopes to be able to offer a value proposition to the companies within the Al-Bukhary Group and eventually expand its offerings to the overall enterprise markets to support the growing demand for higher bandwidth.
