Post-acquisition, TM announces new P1 board and management

  • Chairman is TM group CEO Zamzamzairani, all P1 partners represented
  • Comes in the wake of P1 and Green Packet appointing new CEOs

Post-acquisition, TM announces new P1 board and managementHAVING acquired a 55.3% stake in Packet One Networks (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (P1), Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) – now the controlling shareholder – and its partners have announced the new P1 board members and the company’s key management line-up.

TM group chief executive officer Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa (pic) will serve as chairman of the board, TM said in a statement.

The other TM executives on the board are chief strategy officer Dr Farid Mohamed Sani; Consumer executive vice president Imri Mokhtar; and chief technology and innovation officer Giorgio Migliarina.

On Sept 30, TM announced that after receiving shareholder and regulatory approval, it had completed its investment into P1, a one-time rival. This also made TM the new holding company for P1, whose other investors are Green Packet with a 31.1% stake and South Korea’s SK Telecom Co Ltd with 13.6%.

These two partners are also present in the new P1 board: SK Telecom executive vice president and chief growth officer Park Jung Ho; Green Packet chief executive officer Tan Kay Yen (Kay Tan); and P1 chief executive officer and managing director Puan Chan Cheong (CC Puan).

The P1 board announcement comes just a day after Green Packet announced that Tan had been appointed its chief executive officer, taking over from long-time CEO and founder Puan, who had relinquished his active positions in Green Packet to lead P1. He remains a non-independent, non-executive director at Green Packet.

Within P1’s new management line-up, Puan is joined by TM executive vice president (SME) Azizi A. Hadi, who will oversee P1’s overall operations as chief operating officer; while Nora Junita Mohd Hussaini will head finance and corporate services as chief financial and corporate affairs officer.

Shim Sang Soo, vice president of SK Telecom’s Global Tech Division, has been appointed chief technology officer, while Ti Lian Seng will oversee P1’s IT services as chief information officer.

Selina Chean will head up human resources as chief human capital officer; while Kelvin Lee and Tony Ha Min Yong join the line-up as chief sales and service officer and chief business development officer respectively.

Michael Parker, TM’s vice president of Centralised Organisation Programme Management, Group Strategy will lead P1’s Programme Management Office for LTE Business as its programme director.

TM said the new P1 board and management line-up of executives from TM, Green Packet, SK Telecom and P1 form a strong organisation that will execute P1’s future business strategies and entry into the mobile LTE space.

The collaboration will enable TM to deliver the next generation of converged communication services and accelerate the rollout of LTE services via access to suitable spectrum assets, leveraging both SK Telecom’s expertise and P1’s existing customer base and the strong base of LTE upgradeable WiMAX sites.
